Vancouver Island Preview

Starting this weekend, we are leaving on the first Big Trip – a circumnavigation of Vancouver Island. We’re intending to take about a month, heading up the east side then over and around the tip and back down the west side.

We’ll be stopping each night at anchorages or marinas along the way. The itinerary so far is that we’ll be at Montague Harbour on Saturday Aug 5 for the Bluewater Cruising rendezvous, then off to Nanaimo on Sunday. After that we’ll head across the Strait of Georgia, stopping maybe at Lesqueti Island en route.

Up the east coast, we’ll stop around Powell River, Talbot Cove, the Cordero Islands and some of the small islands near Swanson and Harbledown, finishing off at Port Hardy and Bull Harbour. After rounding the tip, we’ll stop at Sea Otter Cover after our first day of “open ocean”. Then our stops will be: Winter Harbour, Kyuquot, Esperanza Inlet, Friendly Cove, Hot Springs Cover, Tofino, Ucluelet, Bamfield, Port Renfrew, Sooke and maybe Victoria (if we’re tired) and then back to home base at Tsehum Harbour.

For those of you who use Google Earth, you can download this file to see our spots plotted out.

As someone who has been to Tofino and Ucluelet, along with Victoria, I am quite envious of you guys :o. If you’re going to Tofino, and want to eat, try Pasticceria Conradi on 311 Neill Street – it is a fantastic spot, with great Italian food. I can’t say much about Ukee food, sadly enough 🙁

Would you mind if I put some of your pictures and information on my wiki site, along with a link to your blog? (It is going to be at
